About us

We are an international couple from Germany and Argentina. Spreepferdchen was born in Berlin, lived there until her early 20s, moved to North Germany until her late 20s, moved back to Berlin for a few years, then to the Netherlands for some time, and now lives in Cologne. Döner Box was born and raised in Argentina, where he lived in several places until his late 20s. He then moved to Berlin for about 4 years, spent some time in South Germany, and now lives in Cologne.

We travel a lot both for work and private. On our journeys, we often come across places that we find exceptional or surprising. Being raised in a metropolis, and then moving to much smaller towns, I (Spreepferdchen) have often experienced that it is not easy to excite someone from a big city. Town street festivals, museums, restaurants etc. that are appreciated by the locals, tend to only receive a bored “aha” by a city kid. And even though neither of us currently live in Berlin, we were raised in big cities and carry the big city (=spoiled) attitude with us along.

We love Berlin for its multicultural, vibrant and diverse lifestyle, as well as its quiet corners. But the world is big, and there is so much to explore! And sometimes you can find surprises in the most unexpected places. This page is a collection of cities, leisure activities, food places, chains and others we found during our journeys that either surprised us, we consider above average, or that we just particularly enjoyed.

About our icons

Each post ends with two icons indicating Spreepferdchen’s and DönerBox’s individual opinion about the post. Each one indicates whether they approve, disapprove, are indifferent towards it, or weren’t there. Of course, most posts are things that we both approve, but you’ll find the odd one out here and there.
