This small cinema in Altena is the most comfortable we have ever visited. We found it by pure chance: walking around the town we saw an elegant building and decided to investigate, thinking it might be a museum.

The hall was already promising: the bar next to the ticket counter offers not only drinks and snacks but also cocktails and hamburgers. This was enough to draw us in for a movie-and-dinner night, but it was the theatre itself what blew us away. The seats are comfortable and spacious, closer to small sofas than to typical cinema seats. On the corner, small ottomans are free for you to take, and every seat has an extra pillow. To the side, the handrest extends into a small table with a single button and a tiny book. What is this book about, you ask? Well, the menu, of course! With the press of a button, a waiter will come to your seat and gladly bring you anything you want from the bar.

As expected from such a small place, the theatre seats around 30 people. We saw “Independence Day 2” and agree that it’s terrible, but that’s hardly the cinema’s fault.
